COVERS & BINDING

Sewn to Perfection.
Not Glued

Thovia notebooks are stitched together with thread instead of glued at the spine. They open flat, stay open, and hold onto their pages for as long as you own them.

Pages don't fall out

Most hardcover notebooks are glued at the spine. The glue flexes every time you open the book, and eventually it splits and pages start coming loose. Thovia notebooks are stitched with thread, so there is no glue holding your pages in and nothing to crack.

It stays open on its own

You can open a Thovia notebook to any page and start writing. It will not close on you, and you will not be holding it down with your other hand. Writing across a two-page spread works the same as writing on one.

A cover that holds up

The cover is 100% cotton twill over board. Most notebooks at this price use coated paper or polyester made to look like cloth, which scuffs and creases with normal handling. The wordmark is pressed into the cotton rather than printed on top, so there is nothing to wear off.

Everything you asked about the binding

Do Thovia notebooks lie flat?

Yes. Thovia notebooks open flat at any page and stay open without being held down, front to back. That is a result of being sewn rather than glued, and it means you can write across a full spread without fighting the book.

Will pages fall out?

No. Thovia pages are sewn to the spine with thread rather than glued to it. Glued spines fail over time because adhesive gets brittle and splits. There is no adhesive holding Thovia pages in.

Why do notebook spines crack?

Because most notebooks are glued. Every time you open the book, the glue at the spine flexes, and glue becomes brittle as it ages. Once it cracks, pages start coming out in groups. Sewn binding does not have this problem because thread does not go brittle.

What is Smyth-sewn binding?

It is the way hardcover books are bound. Pages are folded into small sections, each section is stitched through its fold with thread, and the sections are bound together. It costs more than gluing and lasts far longer.

What are Thovia covers made of?

100% cotton twill over board. The cotton is what you see and feel, backed with paper the way all bookcloth is made, which is what keeps adhesive from marking the outside of the cover.

Will the wordmark wear off?

No. It is pressed into the cotton rather than printed or foiled on top. There is nothing sitting on the surface that could flake or peel.

Is the cover the same on every notebook?

Yes. All five use the same cotton twill construction. Only the colour changes.
